Taraji P. Henson was born and raised in Washington, DC. Howard University is where Henson earned his bachelor’s degree. She won a Golden Globe for her portrayal as Cookie in Empire, was nominated for an Academy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress with Brad Pitt in David Fincher’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and was nominated for a 2011 Emmy for Lifetime’s Stolen From Me for Best Actress in a Movie or Miniseries. Her work as Detective Joss Carter in CBS’s Person of Interest earned her the 2014 NAACP Image Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Henson made her singing debut in Hustle & Flow, and on the Oscar telecast, she performed the Academy Award-winning song It’s Hard Out Here For a Pimp.
